First Issue Stamp Forgeries

Paraguay Genuine

1870, Paraguay, Scott #1, Genuine

(1.) Counting on the left side from under "DEL" to the thick, slightly sloping line representing the horizon, just above the "U" of UN there are 58 thin even horizontal lines of shading in the background.
(2.) These lines are drawn right through the pole the lion is holding.
(3.) The liberty cap does not touch the circle above it.
(4.) There is a patch of white, devoid of shading, on the lion's thigh.
(5.) The upper serifs at the numerals "1" in the corners end with a sort of a knob.
(6.) There are 3 dots in each of the numerals "1" of the denomination.

Paraguay Forgery

Forgery of Paraguay #1, Described by Rev. Earee

(1.) There are six heavy, splotchy lines of shading in the upper background.
(2.) The liberty cap touches the circle above it.
(3.) The upper serifs of the numerals "1" do not form a knob as the genuine.
(4.) The horizon has more of a hump, especially on the left, than the genuine does.
(5.) Many other differences.

Forgery of Paraguay #1 on Cardstock

(1.) Printed on very thick paper (card stock).
(2.) Counting on the left side starting under "DEL" to the horizon there are only 43 lines of background shading in the circle instead of 58 as the genuine has.
(3.) There is only one dot in each of the right side numerals instead of 3 as in the genuine.
(4.) The lions thigh is shaded right across without a white patch.
(5.) The lines of shading stop at each side of the pole and do not pass through it as in the genuine.

Paraguay #1, Third Forgery

(1.) The line representing the horizon is not as distinct, or prominent, as on the genuine, or the other two forgeries above.
(2.) There only 41 lines of shading in the background from below DEL to the horizon line, not 58 as the genuine.
(3.) There is no white patch, devoid of shading, on the lion's thigh, as on the genuine.
(4.) The lines of shading are not drawn right through the pole as on the genuine.
